The Shooting Grounds At West Branch Angler & Resort
This past year we saw the Sporting Clays Range more active than ever. Its a great opportunity to get out in the field with some friends and have a lot of fun while the fishing is a bit slow in the afternoon. The great thing about our range is that it is set up for both novice and expert shooters, so no matter what your classification is please give it a try. We offer loaner guns to all guests of the resort, free of charge, so if you don't have a gun and are still thinking about trying it out, please let us know! We would be glad to get you on our hill to experience shooting! Our staff of trappers and teachers will be able to get even the most beginner shooters to hit targets and have fun. We have purchased several more shotguns for this upcoming year, allowing us to take even larger groups of shooters on this hill, so get the whole family to join in. We have youth guns available for children, minimum age for new shooters is 10 years old.
Sporting Clays Range
Our professionally designed sporting clays range is designed for the upland bird hunter. Ranging from 7 to 12 stations (depending on time of year), this range can be summed up in one word “FUN.” All presentations on this course are what you will see in the woods while upland bird hunting. Traps are simulations of Quail, Pheasants, Wood Cock, Grouse, and even Ducks. So no matter what your outdoor passion is our range will have something to offer you. This is a great way for you to have some fun on a slow afternoon, we will pick you up at the shop on one of our Kubota RTV 900's, and drive you up the hill for you shooting experience. So no matter what you physical shape, we can make sure you have a great time! Hope to see you there!
5 Stand Shooting Range
We Added a 5 Stand Field, this will allow groups of up to 5 people shoot at the same time, without taking up as much time as the sporting clays range, so if you are pressed for time, this will be a great option for you. For those not familiar with it, 5-Stand is a clay target activity that is sure to challenge any shotgunning enthusiast. 5-Stand consists of 5 different shooting stations from which each shooter gets to shoot 5 different target presentations. A full round consists of 25 targets per shooter. Up to 5 shooters participate in a round and shoot at each of the 5 stations or stands. On the first pass at each stand, the shooter gets a 2-Shot Single target from one of the numbered presentations. Next, each shooter gets what is known as a Report Pair of targets. This is where after the first shot is fired, the second target is released. On the third and final pass on each stand, the shooter receives a True Pair of targets with both targets thrown simultaneously. Each shooter then moves to the next stand. That's a total of 5-targets at each of the 5 stands for 25 total clays. The beauty of this 5-Stand is that not only are there different presentations at each station, but the order of them can be altered each day. For that matter, the location of the traps themselves can be changed from time to time so that the presentations can vary.
If you haven’t seen or experienced 5-Stand yet, do your self a favor and come out and take a look; but bring your shotgun and shells. You’re bound to want to give it a try.
Flurry Shoot
We added the Super Huntsman Trap to our arsenal this year. This is just a beautiful piece of craftsmanship that will excite any shooter. Known as the only “Hunting Simulator,” this three trap trailered system can give you just about any presentation at any speed. Consisting of two wobble traps and a third oscillating trap this is a great way for you to get ready for any upcoming bird season. All targets can be thrown on a pull by pull basis or put into flurry mode. While in flurry mode the trapper can set intervals of 20, 30, or 40 bird flurry's for your group, all while controlling what speed these birds are released. Up to 5 shooters can shoot a flurry at one time, and we can make this as easy or as hard as your desire. Keep in mind we also incorporated this trap into our 5 Stand and Sporting Clays range for some “extra fun.”
